Senegal: a crossroads of ecosystems

Located in the western part of the African continent, Senegal contains in its territory a veritable crossroads of ecosystems and natural environments. Following the nuance of the Sahel, the area of passage between the Sahara desert and the forests of central Africa, Senegal alternates between north and south evocative landscapes that, flanked by the warmth and smiles of the local population, make this territory unique.

In the north rises Saint-Louis, the ancient capital of Senegal, which due to its colonial architecture and its particular position on a strip of sand, has been elected World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A little further to the north, the Doudj National Park is home to pelicans and pink flamingos, while following the course of the Senegal River we arrive in the lush central part of the country. Along the peninsula of Cape Verde, animated by lively markets, chaotic squares and the overwhelming nightlife rises Dakar, capital and most important city of the country, also known for having given its name to the famous rally race.

Beating the streets of the central areas, ancient forests of baobab, lions of the savannah, golden beaches and the pink lake of Retba will leave any visitor astonished. Walking through the territories of the Petit Côte, we come across the bay of “Somone” which, with its particular shape, houses a wonderful lagoon with calm waters ideal for bathing, while reaching the south of the country, evergreen tropical forests and mangrove channels distinguish the regions of the “Casamance”. Senegal really has everything for you!
